To do: Plan a winter garden indoors with a few seeds and a sunny spot
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: Seeds, soil, pot
No matter where you live, you and your child can enjoy herbs and veggies year-round with a little bit of planning and a special sunny spot in your home.
Make a winter garden!
Think about growing basil, mint, or other leafy herbs that thrive indoors and out during all seasons. You and your child can buy a pot of basil at the store or start from seed.
Your child can have the responsibility of tending the plan – pulling off dead leaves, checking it each day, and watering it.
Even more fun is growing an indoor tomato plant or Meyer lemon tree. Both plants thrive in the winter indoors and your young child can be responsible for all manners of plant care like the following:
3. Washing leaves
4. Rotating the pot
Planting and tending crops to renew the life cycle for another season is exciting and gives your child an important responsibility during the long winter months.
