To do: In the bath or at the pool, practice swimming like sea mammals.
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: A tub with a little wiggle room
__
Take a look at all the animals on this set of Sea Mammals 3 part cards. What do they have in common? What makes them different from one another?
Do sea otters have legs or fins? Which animal has tusks?
Lastly, how do you think each animal swims?
In the bathtub or at the pool, try mimicking the way a blue whale uses its tail to cruise through the water. It can’t kick like a human, instead it moves its tail up and down to swim!
Or speak about a sea otter’s webbed back feet. How fast could you swim if you had webbed feet and a large tail?
Sea mammals are equipped to live in water, while we’re ready to live on land. Each of us has unique characteristics to succeed in our environment!
