This no-bake treat is adapted from the Green Kitchen app recipe for Gingerbread and Sesame Truffles. It’s suggested as a winter time treat, but we love it all year round because it’s healthy and children can do 90% of the work! Here’s how to make them:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 14 pitted soft dates
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon tahini
- Sesame seeds
How-to:
- Combine all ingredients except sesame seeds in a food processor. Blend until all ingredients are well-distributed. Mixture should be sticky!
- Provide your child with a teaspoon to measure out the mixture to roll into balls, or guesstimate by simply scooping a small amount out of the bowl by hand.
- Press and roll into a solid ball, then roll in sesame seeds until covered.
- Place in the refrigerator to firm up, then enjoy! They stay good in the fridge for about a week, or in the freezer for months!
This activity is perfect for children to practice measuring ingredients, to use fine motor muscles to roll and measure balls, and to practice step-by-step instructions that result in a tasty finished product!
