Parks have a few different functions, depending on where you live, but overall they serve as a place where we can enjoy nature and the outdoors.
Some parks include team sport facilities, like baseball or tennis, while others are a bit more wild with only rough narrow walking paths. In this activity, we invite you to explore different types of parks with your child!
Identify a few parks you’ve never been to in your town, and visit them! Every park has something new to offer, and your family will love exploring together.
Additionally, make the outing a learning experience with math and language extensions:
To practice writing, try putting together a short story about your ideal park. “My park would have 10 slides, or lots of grass!” Alternatively, write a story about what you typically do at the park. “At the park, I like to…”
For math practice, consider keep a tally of the different parks you go to and the attractions they have. Then, do a big survey of the town. “Our town has 3 parks, 8 big slides, 4 small slides, and 15 swing sets.”
