Enjoy nature by spending a weekend camping with the family. Get your child involved in the following ways:
On your drive or hike to your campsite, think of or write a camping song your family can sing around the campfire tonight.
Another fun activity is story-telling around the campfire while making S’mores. Explain to you child that these can be real stories of things that have happened to them, or make believe-stories!
When you arrive, involve your child as much as possible in helping to unload the car and pitch the tent. They will be excited to get all of their belongings in place and anxious to explore, but remind them that setting up the campsite is a family project everyone will appreciate once it’s complete.
This is also a great time to remind your child your appreciation of nature, safety around a campfire and the safe exploration opportunities around your site.
Lastly, enjoy yourself! Remind your child all weekend long what a positive, gratifying experience it is to spend time outdoors with family.
And don’t forget to remind yourself as well of the bounty around you. Take a deep breath with nature, and have fun!
